According to popular tradition, the village of Bramezza was built by Ottoman prisoners of war who had been exiled there by the Venetian Republic, so provides importance historical evidence of the presence of the Turks in the Dolomites.  We can still see the unusual chimneys reminiscent of Ottoman architecture in the village. The name of the nearby hamlet of Caracoi is also rather unusual, as it means “black village” in Turkish.
